Go Yuno!
Hidamari Sketch’s Yuno is through to the 3rd round.
I’M IN SHOCK. While I thought that she had the best chance out of the four Hidamari Sketch characters left in the Japanese 2ch Saimoe tournament, Yuno crushed all opposition – specifically Miu (Ichigo Mashimaro) and Barashuishou (Rozen Maiden) – by over 250 votes to claim her place in Saimoe’s third round.
Next up is Miyako on the 23rd (she kinda has a chance), while the lovely Hiro faces up to her tough round (both Kagami and Mugi!) and almost certain oblivion on the 24th.
By the way, Owen has been blogging about Touhou Seimoe 2007, which covers the huge cast of the ever growing number of cult Touhou Project scrolling shooter games.
I’ve kind of looked around at the Touhou stuff quite a lot over the last year or so as the cute is insanely strong with the character designs, but it’s like a whole scary subculture in there, so never gone any deeper.
Anyway, that looks like fun too!

You really just wanted to link to the Miyako/Marisa crossover gif, I bet.
Despite having not played any of the games, I find the Touhou doujinshi culture (which extends to music as well as illustrated books) to be an interesting phenomenon in its own right.

So happy for Yunocchi! Hiro’s match will really put Hidamari’s popularity to the true test. Much as I love Mugi-choco, I will vote for Hiro just cuz she has a better chance

Re: your request for good Touhou doujinshis. I’ll have to poke around and see which ones I’ve really enjoyed. I’ve mostly been browsing the Touhou Wiki collection:

There’s a link to the Japanese version, and a text post with the translation. I don’t know its title, and I think its sweetness only really works if you have a decent idea of the characters (and understand that the Yuyuko harassing Youmu during much of that doujinshi is a shape-shifting monster).
