The blog passes a significant milestone, I think.

AT SOME POINT earlier today, some unsuspecting web surfing person clicked on a link to this blog, whether via a search, or via one of the kind bloggers that list this site, or maybe even on my ’sig’ on one of the forums that I am on, and gave me the 50,000th hit. Time for some meta blogging I think…

With this site being something like 329 days old, that’s an average of just over 150 hits a day. Of course, the way that WordPress counts things, this just means that 150 pages have been accessed every 24 hours, so it’s not 150 unique people, which would be much better and obviously doesn’t sound quite as good. Enough with the pessimism though, it could be much worse; I could have half that number of visitors.

Judging by the pages which are visited most often, a lot of the hits are what I’d consider background noise. Once you’ve posted on a significant number of different topics, and especially with a blog such as this one which covers the whole gamut of my interests, then you’re going to keep getting hits on ancient posts, which means I could probably stop blogging for a couple of months and still get 100 page views per day.

I’ve been rubbish at posting the last month or so anyway, and the hit counter barely scrapes over 220 on most days now, when it was hovering around 300 at one point. Work has sucked up most of my enthusiasm to write (I write all day anyway), and add in the hassle from moving to my new flat, and, well, let’s just say I promise to do better in the future.

Just by way of comparison, one of the other blogs I administer has had 139,019 hits since it was created in late February, or 926 page views per day.
