Suddenly, it was announced
JUST A FEW short days after I wrote about Explosions in the Sky visiting the UK next March for a one-off gig, come details, freshly nicked from a variety of sources, regarding the Austin, Texas, based post rock group’s forthcoming new album.
Called All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone, the emotastic epic sounding release will be made available on February 19th in the UK, just a week or so before I see them in London. Yes!
US fans will have to wait an extra day to get hold of their copy, probably because of some holiday celebrating Mom’s apple pie or something. Incredibly, this means it has been around four years since EitS’ last proper studio album, The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place, was sent out into the world.

A tracklisting is also available, as follows, and the band themselves describe the new album as being around 44 minutes long.
1. The Birth and Death of the Day
2. Welcome, Ghosts
3. It’s Natural To Be Afraid
4. What Do You Go Home To?
5. Catastrophe and the Cure
6. So Long, Lonesome
There will also be a limited two-disc version, which features the six tracks remixed by a variety of producers and artists, which include Jesu (Final/Godflesh) and Four Tet.
1. The Birth and Death of the Day [Jesu mix]
2. Welcome, Ghosts [Adem mix]
3. It’s Natural To Be Afraid [The Paper Chase mix]
4. What Do You Go Home To? [Mountains mix]
5. Catastrophe and the Cure [Four Tet mix]
6. So Long, Lonesome [Eluvium mix]
Explosions in the Sky have been previewing a couple of the new tracks to jammy lucky audiences that have seen them live over the last few months, and the band’s record label, Temporary Residence, has put up one of the songs, Welcome, Ghosts, on the Pitchfork section of its website. A direct link to the mp4 file can be found here.
Finally, if you can put up with variable quality live recordings, Archive.org has copy of the band’s El Ray Theatre (Los Angeles, Ca.) gig online, which includes two new songs, one of them being the aforementioned Welcome, Ghosts. The download page is here.
Well, I’m excited! You should be too.
